I don't know that they would make the cover of "Dirt Cheap Driving" Magazine. Since I'm assuming you're relatively young, insurance would certainly be an issue also. If you're entirely dependant on mechanics for everything, this might not be the best car at this time in your life. The period between 100,000 and 150,000 miles on any car (including Japanese cars) is a time when most of the things like water pumps, alternators, exhausts etc. will need replacement. Typically you'll need to replace something like that once or twice a year, and it's not the end of the world and would probably be cheaper than making a payment on something newer. You want cheap, reliable transportation and the way to get the most bang for your buck is to think in terms of the cheapest, simplest little 5spd (they're cheaper)Japanese buzz bomber you can find with no more than 70K to 80K. Think bare bones Civic, Corolla, Sentra or better a Tercel. A Geo Prism is one of the best deals going because it's actually a Corolla but sells for a lot less-good luck.
