Rotted flex pipe on down pipe, what are my options? Posted by IanC [Email] (#139) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IanC) on Sun, 23 Apr 2006 19:22:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My 96 900 SETC 's engine has been sounding more and more like a V8, which was enjoyable for a while but which was caused by the down pipe rotting out at the flex pipe. Aftermarket price for the whole assembly (item 1 at the The SaabSite on the diagram for an NG900) is $450 which is a whole lot better than the !295$ or so for OEM. I currently have no indication that the catalytic converter is bad and I'd like to keep the fix as cheap as possible (unless a 3" down pipe wouldn't require a new cat).
Can a local (good) muffler shop weld in a replacement flex pipe? Is there another approach that I'm not aware of? Should I ditch what I think is an OK cat for a new assembly? As you can tell, this is something I'm hoping the collective wisdom of The Saab Network can help me solve.
I'm looking forward to affixing a 200K sticker on my 'vert - hope you can help me figure out how to do it!
Thank you,
Ian
