removing radiator fan

Hi all,
I'm trying to get my radiator fan out so that I can replace the resistor cleanly (rather not try to get down in there with a soldering iron while it's in the car). I found bill h's post from a couple years ago, where he says:
"To replace fan, remove battery, disconnect wiring to fan, unscrew 10mm bolt holding power steering line to frame on top of radiator, move hose out of the way, loosen connections for ac linefrom the radiator crossmember, unscrew fan mounting bolts and slide fan sideways to disengage from slots, lift fan out. Once out, you can remove fan motor from frame by removing nuts holding the motor in place."
My problem is with the "lift fan out" part. There's still a lot of stuff around there. I'm having trouble getting it between the intake pipe and the power steering hose on the left side of the car (right side as I look at it from the front). Is there a trick to this? I'd rather not have to disconnect any power steering stuff...I already spilled coolant today.
Thanks for any tips,
Matt

p.s.: to avoid removing the battery, or spilling coolant like I did, you can unscrew the bolt on the fan assembly on the car's left side using a 3-inch extension off the bolt, then a universal joint, and then a 6-inch extension to your ratchet.
