The HOT [high output turbo] has the Viggen (cross flow) IC and ?turbo? and a higher boost (than stock) as well. I do not know that it was associated with any trim specific levels or not, but I think that it was only on the SE. Many sellers could be totally ignorant about HOT status.
Most folks want to to know the VIN coding for the HOT engine variant. Many could tell glancing under the hood. Such has been discussed many times before.
The 1999 9-3 HOT was produced for part of that model year. Later production had the same turbo and IC as the HOT, but the system changed from the 1999 T5 to the T7 control systems. The T7 runs a bit better with better MPGs. The T5 can have boost increased cheaply, the T7 requires ECU mods for such benefits. The T5 works well with a MBC (MBC+A is better). Either can use a SMBC for faster turbo spoolup. A manual trany application gets the best improvements from a SMBC. A MBC+A also provides such reductions in boost lag.
