If it fails, it'll only take you a couple of minues to replace it. Plus, to boot, there's a recall on them, so, you may be able to get a free one.
The Direct Ignition Cassette (DIC) is the black panel right on top of the engine in the middle of the valve cover that says "Direct Ignition." There are 4 Torx screws that hold it in place. In the trunk, assuming that all of the tools are there, is a screw driver with the appropriately sized Torx driver to remove those screws. The cassette pulls straight up and off the top of the engine. Once out, you have better access to pull the plug off of it. The side of the plug (it should be a red tab-like piece) pulls out as the plug is slid out of its socket. Assembly is the reverse of this procedure. Of course, you'll have to let the engine cool off before doing all of this (an hour, or so).
That's it! It's one of the most simple things to replace.
Congrats on the purchase! It looks like a great car. Not sure about the anomoly hanging over the brake pedal, but, I noticed that you can see it in some shots and not in others. I'm sure it's nothing major...
Let us know how your trip goes! And welcome back to the fray!
