This is much more simple than they're making it. I'm assuming you installed a manual cable (though this probably applies to the automatic adjust cable too). The end of the cable, where it loops over the clutch pedal, is plastic. With a bit of slack in the cable, this vibrates on the clutch pedal and makes the sound you described. Stepping on the clutch, ever so slightly, removes the slack and stops the noise.
On my '94 900SE, I had the same problem. I used a dab of Silicone grease on the clutch pedal, where the cable connects. This stopped the vibrations and removed the sound.
