you didn't mention which part of the country you live in, but if it's the rust belt beware, the classic 900 body has a specially designed salt trap in the front frame member which eventually leads to trouble, it can be fixed if you are handy with a welding machine but you should be aware of it. I think for 5 grand you can find a nice '97 which was the first year of some suspension upgrades for the NG900 series, but i would stick with a plain-jane 900S non-turbo if you really want it to stay a 5,000 car. If you can find a good classic 900, well they are called classic for a reason....
