I have a 2002 Viggen and a SID 2 (it is 5 buttons, not 3). It is super easy to figure out what you need and to change the SID. All you do is pry (carefully) in a counter-clockwise motion (starting at the lower right corner of the SID) with something very thin (I used a spackel/putty knife). The SID is just pushed straight back in the dash and comes out easily if you pry forward (mine came out in 10 seconds). Make sure you work all away around the SID and don't just try to pry the corner off). AND YES, all you have to do is get a replacement SID from EBAY or LKQ (that is what I did). You should probably pry yours out and check the part number so you get the right unit. No re-programming necessary.
