I have a '97 NG900. My instrument panel/cluster has been acting up. 99% of the time the speedometer and temperature gauges don't work, but all of a sudden they will start working -- for maybe one minute or less, and then they will stop again. Tachometer and gas gauge don't work. Turbo APC works, but I don't need that!
Ignition switch was just replaced because engine cut out completely even at highway speeds, the check engine light would come on, and then the instrument panel would go dark, and then all the electrical cut out too.
Before that, we replaced the battery when two things were happening: [1] Some gauges on the instrument panel would work/not work intermittently. [2] The engine or maybe it's the gas would start lurching: speed would drop and giving it more gas wouldn't help, then the engine would seem like it was trying harder, and then the check engine light would come on.
Saab indep mechanic says on a '96 he tightened the instrument panel, which worked briefly then stopped. Then replaced the instrument panel, which worked briefly then stopped.
Any other ideas? Thanks.
