My 2002 SE had never had any A/C service, but I went into this exercise well-prepared after reading several articles, including InterDynamics' website http://www.id-usa.com/how_to_recharging.asp.
The pressure gauge that came with my kit showed the current refrigerant pressure at the low end of the recommended range, and life in Florida is not pleasant with an inefficient A/C.
I successfully added the right oil (2 oz) and followed that up with a large can of 134A refrigerant. The pressure gauge showed 43lb, right at the top of the refrigerant manufacturer's recommended range. However, the cabin air was barely cool, certainly not cold. In addition I could feel the compressor "hunting" as I drove. I carefully released about 3lb of pressure, and the A/C now performs as it should, and the compressor no longer drags on the serpentine belt.
Assuming the gauge is accurate, the pressure corresponding to "full" is 40lb, several pounds lower than I have seen others recommend. Does anyone have any corresponding figures?
