1998 900S 2.3 5-door 5-speed manual 153k miles.
Brief history: car dies, fails to restart. Will randomly restart and then may or may not die again, etc., etc. Replaced ignition switch -- old one was OK but got unbolted from the housing. Replaced it with new switch anyway. Problem still here. Tested with inductive timing light when it is cranking and fails to turn over. No spark. Suspect intermittently faulty crankshaft position sensor.
The problem is that I am unable to extract the bolt holding the old sensor. Otherwise I would have just thrown a new sensor at it. The bolt is stuck and now I have a tip of a bolt extractor in it, so impossible to drill out. Before I go any further with trying to remove the sensor, I would like to make sure it is faulty, if possible.
I tried checking resistance between pins 1 and 2 on sensor's connector (male pins). I get infinity(?!) and the book says 860 ohms at 20 'C. What am I doing wrong? Can I even test it with a multimeter, or is a Tech2 required to test it? Should I crank the engine while checking resistance on pins 1-2? Thanks!
