It's time again to replace my pads, and I'm looking for some advice. I have Hawk HPS on all four corners right now, and I've had what seem to be transfer film problems with those. During performance driving, they're quite good, though they seem to fade rather earlier than I'd prefer. However, after even a short time of gentler braking (city driving), it seems to wipe the transfer film off and decrease initial bite. They also seem to `shudder' when I'm moving very slowly and on the brakes (automatic transmission)... is this a normal thing?
In any case, I'd call the HPS pads `pretty good', by comparison with the Satisfied GranSport 6 pads and stock pads I've had in past years. What I'm looking for is a pad with smooth initial bite and excellent fade resistance; wear isn't really an issue, I can deal with annual replacements. I drive in everything, from snowy northeastern winter rallies, to hill climbs and descents in southern summers, and a daily city-based commute as well. If possible I'd like a pad that can do it all. If I need one pad for summer and another for winter, I can change them out with my tires, too.
The only pad I haven't tried that I've heard of in a Saab context is the EBC Greenstuff pad. Would this be an appropriate choice? Anything else I might look into? Am I expecting too much out of a road pad, and should I simply learn to maximise what I already have?
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
