Cooling Fan Resistor R&R - technical question ->

It seems my low speed cooling fan is not engaging. I want to do the DIY resistor R&R that's been discussed elsewhere, and I've reviewed the geocities web site that'a been referred to, and I'll be testing it over the weekend, but on visual inspection, at the least all the wires need to be redone - cracked etc.
I have a technical question re: the resistor: I found one online that is described as "50 watt, 1% wire wound" and either .1 or .5 ohm, and it is "aluminim housed" and it has what appears to be a metal cover with a hole for a screw. It's only like $6 so that's better than replacing the whole fan shroud.
I have linked to it here, if such links are allowed to commercial sites.
The question is, is this an appropriate resistor to replace the one on the cooling fan? and which one should I get? I think the aluminum housing would make it so that I don't have to make a heat sink as described, is that correct?
