Just my opinion, but I doubt that it is abnormal. Most of us are usually unaware of the temperatures that the wiring reaches when under load, simply because it is rarely exposed in an area that can be touched while the component is being operated. So when we do encounter a wire carrying a heavy load the warmth can be surprising. I had several experiences such as yours dating back years. And have you ever felt around the area of the SID after being on for a period of time? Pretty hot, and that's normal. Now of course, if there are other symptoms, or if the wiring is actually too hot to touch, all bets are off! But if you've checked that the circuit is properly fused (correct amp fuse), I would not worry further.
