Copy & paste the link under "sorry one more try". It's still good. I'll include it here as well. I need to find out how to include a pic in the message. It's just a pic of the top of the antenna when fully retracted, pointing out the rubber piece I had to lift up. The connection itself is holding up - talk radio is crystal clear - I was wondering if it would once I hit that first serious pothole. If I have to, I'll take it apart. There's likely a way to make the connections without that rubber piece.
If you just touch your antenna and the static clears up, this may be the problem. The surest way to know is to measure the resistance between the ground part of the antenna connection, the part that rotates, and the top of the antenna base that makes contact with the underside of the body. It should be close to zero ohms. It should also be near zero ohms between the top of the extended antenna and the center projection of the antenna connection.
If this doesn't work, you might check out this TSB : http://www.townsendimports.com/Saab_TSB_Folder/Saab_TSB_pdfs/367_1713.PDF
But, don't do what I did and overlook the obvious. Had I purchased a cheap antenna a year ago, I would've saved many hours spent trying to track down the source of the static. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck.
