I've used synthetic oils for more than 20 years - in fact my 1985 900 has been on it since just after it was "born." I've never had any problems with engine wear. I finally got rid of my 1987 Ford truck last year - over 180,000 miles on it -- and the engine was still running just fine. (The issue was "body integrity" or you could just say most of the body's metal was gone from corrosion... and it looked, ah, bad.) I have always used AmsOiland would swear by it, but I think there are others that are probably getting close to equal. ANY of them is f-a-r better than the old stuff - just get some (or "borrow" a few drops) and rub a tiny bit between your fingers, then do the same (other hand!) with traditional oil. Difference should be easily noticeable.
