Now, I know we are trying to attach words to sounds so something may be lost in translation here but a knock at that level...or really at any level, rather than a "ping", could quite possibly be a low end issue...like bearings. How is your oil pressure? What oil are you runnning? As the oil thins out you may not have enough pressure to keep everything lubricated. I'd take it real easy until you have this sorted out. If you are catching it at its onset you may just need new bearings and such but if you are further along, you can really mess things up. Be careful...and I hope I'm wrong.
