The weather is finally warming up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, so I had a long anticipated fluid changing weekend on our 165k 99 9-3SET manual, and 116K 98 900-SET auto.

1)Brakes. Used Motive Power Bleeder and Febi Bilstein Dot 4. 9mm deep socket. Worried bleeders might snap off, cleaned with PB Blaster and let set for a few minutes, easy release. Old fluid was dark. Brakes work much better now, were a little mushy. Oh, loosened wheels and drove a few hundred yards as they did not want to be removed. About one liter per car. Plan again end of summer.

2)Manual trans. Used ramps. 8mm allen wrench with 12" section of flattend copper pipe installed on end to remove check hole. 8mm socket driver for drain with pipe extension on ratchet. 15/16" socket with break bar used on top filler hole. Needed to loosen and move power steering reservior slightly to access filler. All hex and fill plugs were extremely tight, but removed easily once treadlock broke. Fluid dark brown, no shavings on magnetic plug. 99 9-3 shifts much easier and smoother. 1.8 liter trans fluid. Plan again for end of summer. Any problems with adding the access to the transmission? Hate to toss it.

3) Auto trans. Used ramps. Very easy. Removed metric (22mm?) plug right side trans pan with 15/16" socket. Drained 3.5 quarts. Slightly dark red. Added new, will do the same in a few days.

4)Chevron Techron. One bottle in half-full gas tank. Used SeaFoam last fall.

We love our Saabs and hope to keep them running far beyond 300k. They are very smooth runners. Rre-preventive maintenance is looked forward to.

Saabnet was my tool to knowledge and confidence.
