I have a 1999 9-3 with non-working AC. I did a little bit of troubleshooting this weekend and was able to elminate the blower motor, AC fuses (the ones listed in the 2 main fuse panels), or lack of refrigertant/pressure as potential causes. I have a suspicion that it is the compressor, but I'm not sure how to tell for sure. I assume that with the engine running, you should be able to hear it turn on right? I also had a couple of other questions/obsevations:
1. When you press the AC button, does an icon appear on the SID? (My SID is patchy so I can't tell if it did)
2. If an icon is supposed to appear and does not, does that mean that it could just be a problem with the AC switch on the dash?
3. What is a normal PSI reading on the low pressure port at around 70 deg F? (Mine was reading at around 85 PSI [too high?] but that may have been a result of the meter being attached to the R134a can thus pressurizing the area upstream from the compressor.
4. Some refrigerant came out of the low pressure port and appeared green and frothy. Is this normal?
Basically, what other troubleshooting steps can I take? I have gone as far as my knowledge takes me. Thanks, Mike
