Certain engine configurations have natural imbalances or vibrations due to the configuration itself, not how well the crankshaft, etc. is balanced. An inline 4 cylinder is one of these. What I'm getting at is that balancing the engine won't eliminate this vibration. This is not a problem with smaller engines, but once an inline 4 gets over 2.0 liters, this can become a problem, leading to the use of the balance shafts. I'm not going to tell you not to do it, just be aware that the engine will not be as vibration free as it would be with the balance shafts working properly.
