I like the v6, and it isn't by any means a pos. My wife's car has almost 240k on it. I do the belt and tensioners every 60k. It doesn't need much in between. Why don't you just take the heads off and get them fixed. It will cost much less $$ and take much less time. Converting it to the 4 cyl will be a nightmare, not to mention cost more than fixing the heads.
If you've never driven a v6 900, try to find one to drive. They go almost as well as the turbos. Once you drive one, you'll probably want to fix yours. Night and day better than the 2.3
