That is a ridiculous claim that a Viggen will not last as long as an SE. I guess that's true for the 9.5 Aero too as it uses the same engine? Where'd he get his info....Consumer Reports?
The Viggen engine is basically the same as the 2.0L with a different crank.
Both engines can suffer from sludge.
Only the 1999s had potential piston issues as the pistons were upgraded in later years. But for the most part this is a non issue.
The Viggen was NOT built on the same assembly line...the chassis once welded up it, it was then shipped to Finland where it was assembled by Valmet Auto, a weapons manufacturer that now builds the Porsche Boxter.
The SE is nice but with the better suspension, amazing seats, and all of it's addictive torque, the Viggen is amazing. It's true that finding a good Viggen may be more difficult than an SE since the car may have been treated more harshly. Patience pays off and driving a few will soon have you recognize a good one immediately. Took me a few years and about 8 test drives to find mine. Downside? Never have I been so obsessed about a car!!!
Best of luck in whatever you chose as they are both nice cars.
