In the next six months, I need to replace the front and rear brake pads and rotors. Dealer quoted me $425 for the rear and about $480 for the front. I almost died. I remember having the front and rear pads/rotors replaced on my old NG 900 for MUCH less--I think just pads was about $150ish and pads plus rotors was about $250-$270 (this was a saab indie).
Unfortunately, I now live in a different state from my old saab indie. I found one around me, but his quote of $360 for rear brakes/rotors still seems out of line.
Called my local mechanic who I use for oil changes, tire stuff, simple stuff, and decided to get a quote there. He said rear pads and rotors are about $210-220. I asked what kind of pads they used and he said Raybestos, and promised me that they would be as good or better than Saab OEM. I did a quick search on here, and can't find much (a few have had good experiences, and I think I saw one person who said do not use them). Any thoughts as to quality? I don't mind using non-OEM parts, but I still want them to be quality. BTW, I asked and I don't think ordering parts myself and bringing them is an option. And no, I cannot work on cars, so DIY is out:)
