Howdy, Saabers
A week ago, I finally changed my 900 SE Turbo's original dic, and also the spark plugs (used NGK BCPR7ES-11's). Expectedly, this cured a long-running performance problem, and made an intermittent check engine light finally die (wasn't sure this was the problem, & as an adult college student, i was too cheap to pay $300 for a DIC, to find out). Now, she runs GREAT...rediscovered how my Saab is SUPPOSED to run!
A few hours later, while running errands, the car threw a check gearbox light, and a CEL (comes on automatically, with the check gearbox light does). I've never even seen the check gearbox light in my 900, other than at startup.
I followed the great directions from this site, on changing the tranny fluid (drain 3 1/2 quarts, fill, drive, repeat), but have only done it twice, as I'm waiting for another day above freezing! The check gearbox light went off shortly after the first ATF change, and was off a little longer, after the second, but is still on most of the time. I'm HOPING it will die after the third - as I'm supposed to get it inspected in 3 days!
Anyone ever experienced this - change DIC, get a check gearbox light? Also, does it take 3 full changes of ATF (3 1/2 quarts at a time), to get the light to go off??? The tranny fluid was pretty black when I first changed it, so I'm thinking it's the culprit. Any insight????
Greatfully,
Tom M
