16" wheels do generally give a better ride. In addition, they offer more bump protection if you live in an area with less than ideal roads. 17" looks kuel and increases handling marginally at the cost of ride and protection.
I would suggest finding some BBS or other quality wheels. Forged isb est, but will set you back a bundle. Lower cost versions of that line are also somewhat durable. Don't buy cheap Borbet wheels, they bend. Ebay is OK, but only if you find higher quality wheels at a reasonable price.
