Think of ALL of the hubbub back in the early 1980s when GM started using generic GM engines across all of its makes. There was a time when, if you bought a Buick it had a Buick specific engine; Pontiacs had Pontiac engines; Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Chevy each had their own engines. Sometime around 1980 that changed and the 350 V-8 in your Buick (or Oldsmobile or Pontiac) or was a Chevy 350 V-8 or the 231 cu in V-6 in your Chevy, Pontiac, Oldsmobile was a Buick V-6. We have come to see that GM having an excess of brands doesn't make sense. How much sense does it make for GM to have 4-5 different 350 V-8s? As for a SAAB engine, AFAIK, the last truly SAAB engine was the 2-stroke 3-cylinders. The V-4 that replaced those was a Ford engine. The 2.0 and 2.3 I4s were based on a Triumph automobile engine that SAAB bought the rights to. Although, I have to admit I don't know the origin of the V-6 in the NG900.
