Vibration Dampener on drive shaft

Has anyone installed the new style vibration dampener ("doughnut") on their right side drive shaft/halfshaft? The original one on mine was two metal halves. The replacement part number is one piece rubber coated metal. It looks like you have to remove the CV joint to put the damn thing on (sliding it on the shaft). Crazy amount of extra work versus the old style. Is the location on the shaft critical (how far it's located from wheel, for example). I wouldn't want to create more vibration than what I'm trying to eliminate.
