Thinking of giving up '99 9-3 repair or not Posted by adam [Email] (#344) [Profile/Gallery] (more from adam) on Mon, 8 Feb 2010 22:15:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
'99 9-3 I bought 5 yrs ago and currently has 215k bought it with 150k. I live in florida and the AC is caput. I have already replaced the evaporator and dryer but now need to replce 3 lines that will cost over $280 new.
The rear-main seal leaks badly but not enough to need oil between changes but enough to ruin my driveway and the HOA keeps wining. I know it's only $15 for the seal but I have no idea how old the clutch is and can't imagine not doing it, that's $500.
Lastly I have the timing chain, no idea how old it is but I assume it's original. I'm afraid it will snap on me any day, but to replace it is easily another $500-$600 on parts.
I can do all the labor so I save there. I figure I'm looking at $750-$800 easy to do the ac, clutch, seal, etc.. and possible $1200 if I do the timing chain and everything else in there.
I'm thinking its time to part ways and move on to another car rather than continue to invest the money in this one. Just looking for some input one way or another. I'm completely on the fence and could afford a new to me car but doesn't want a car payment if I don't need to.
