<sarcasm>Ryan, Ryan - you are such a bad boy... 90mph - that's 10 mph faster than the crazy break-neck speed the German government recommends for safe Autobahn driving. Don't you know that speed kills???</sarcasm>
These cars are built on the German Opel Vectra platform. My brother in Germany has a 1991 model that has somewhat around 180k miles on it. Sure, there was some wear and tear, but it still runs just fine and everything appears to work. I can assure you they ain't drivin' 65 there on the Autobahn (see above). And the winters are not as mild as insane Diego.
The major differences between the Vectra and the Saab are the body and the engine. It's amazing how similar the two feel in all other aspects!
Given that my 95 900 was in great condition after 15 years and 149k miles (always garaged, though), I think our cars have at least that much of a life span, providing we take good care of the engine. You have probably read about the oil sludge issue by now. This sounds way more important than the absolute speed you drive.
Going 80 or 90 will probably have more effect on your fuel cost than anything else. I think the SE is supposed to reach at least 140mph. So, 90mph is barely 2/3 of their capability.
Don't forget the cost of speeding tickets, if you drive unprotected. I use a Valentine1, which has more than paid for itself.
Even the Swedes, who built these cars, don't limit themselves to 65mph. I think their official speed limit is 120km/h, which would be about 75mph. Those who stick to it have good lane discipline, while others go faster. Some even go much faster.
When I visited a friend in Sweden, he hit the rev limiter on his BMW 530i a few times. He claims that if you go fast enough and hit an elk, it will fly over your car, rather than through the windshield. Thank god we didn't have to test this...
Be safe!
