If your local guy ALWAYS have been able to repair your cars problem and he has worked at a Saab dealer before so he knows what he is up for if need arise, it is no need to pay a Saab shop $30.00 more an hour.
If the mechanic works on all kinds of cars he probably can't afford to buy all the different scan tools for each brand.
But for every year that goes by and new models comes out with more intricate electronics, it gets more and more important to have the factory scan tool if you are going to be able to repair the car.
03 and up 9-3 Sport Sedan is one of those where many things just cannot be properly fixed without the real deal.
