Hi All, my name is Herb and I need some expert advice.
I've got a 1999 9-3 Convertible, 5sp. The clutch pedal is exhibiting some really weird behavior. I have an idea what it may be but I wanted to list the following symptoms and get your advice:
Start last Saturday, 10/02/10...
0) Car drives GREAT and shifts like butter in all gears... I love it!
1) It was driving normally until I started cruising rather slowly around noon (85'). Shifting became really crunchy in all gears after an hour of lots of slow stop and go.
2) Turned off the vehicle for a couple of hours, then clutch pedal felt loose the first inch (1"), resistance was not as strong as usual, shifting went from sorta soft crunchy to some effort to put it in gear after a few miles.
3) Let it rest overnight, topped off the brake fluid, pedal felt the same as the day before and shifting degraded rapidly to the point I had to turn it off to get it in gear. Nursed it home.
4) While driving home slowly I noted that the car still had some thrust with clutch pedal fully engaged and I DID NOT note any slippage, during acceleration.
6) I've Checked several times but found no sign of fluids of any kind under the car.
7) The Subframe under the master brake cylinder does seem a bit wet but not to the point of any drip.
Now here it is Tuesday night (65') on 10/05/10...
8) The car, having been parked since Sunday, starts normally with no clutch drag in either first or reverse.
9) It is now fully drivable and shifts through the gears smoothly.
10) I drove it until it heated up to normal and noticed no degradation in shifting performance, no dragging or slipping.
11) Parked it, pressed my foot down and ran through the gears... no problems! Fluid looks to be at the MAX line.
Here is where I need your help... Has ANYBODY had this happen to them and if so, what was your fix?!
Many Many thanks in advance!
Regards,
Herb
