I have the '99 9-3 base convertible 2.0turbo. I tested it out last weekend with 2 bags of 50lb flour (total 100lbs), a spare battery, a hydraulic floor jack, and a full size spare standing up in the back of the trunk (just in case having difficulty accessing the spare). The ride quality was much improved. The total weight was probably about 160lbs. I have since removed the flour, jack and full size spare, and replaced them with 100lbs of free weight iron plates placed inside the spare wheel well, sitting inside and on top of the compact spare wheel. I can probably use another 50lbs or so of free weights that I will have to wrap and place in the spare wheel well so that they don't scrape and score the wheel well and start corrosion. The ride quality is much improved with the weights holding the rear end down. Accelearation is ever so slightly down with the extra 100-150lbs, but that's just like having another person in the car.
