Hood Strut, one or two style?

My '99 Convertible front hood strut(s) are getting old and unable to hold up the hood now the weather is cold. I went to EEuroparts for replacement hood struts, and found not 1 but 2 options: one type sold in pairs (presumably just like what my car has now), the other type is a single strut described as "new style." Is that single-strut type a better strut that I should be upgrading to or should I just buy the two-strut solution because my car can only take that? Thanks in advance.
