It does not sound exactly like a faulty CPS because the symptom there is usually that it works when cool/cold, but fails when hot. So, oan crank the car and start it when it is cold, but if you drive around until the engine heats up, then stop, and try and start the car again, it will crank, but not start. The heat causes a crack in a contact to expand so the sensor does not function. When cold, it contracts and makes contact. Your symptoms seemed to include some times when it would work while still warm/hot....so not sure what might be the cause of your symptoms.
