honestly, $2500 for a 1999 (unless it's been pathologically abused + needs a bunch of work) is a no brainer. 1999 is T5 and harder to sludge than 2000+. the automatic works nicely + is robust. Compared to your c900 (non turbo?) it will feel way faster, but will not handle nearly so well... parts will cost a little more but fewer will be obsoleted... it also has more safety features (airbags + sahr etc), though a c900 is also pretty darn safe if it hasn't rusted...
