I second (or third, or fourth by this time) the cassette. I had a similar problem (although mine is a '99 with the T-5)... at speed it would be fine, but upon acceleration it would miss terribly, (most likely because at speed it doesn't really need the 4th cylinder... but acceleration puts much more of a load on the engine). However, I did get a CEL code of mis-fire in the first cylinder. I think my cassette was on its way out but not fully dead as I swapped the 1 & 2 plugs and the car ran fine (for a while) and then I just swapped the plugs back. I did this for about a week waiting for a new to me cassette. No problems over the last 18 months since getting the new to me cassette.
