PROBLEM SOLVED, and I feel pretty stupid Posted by Nicholas [Email] (#2995) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Nicholas) on Sat, 6 Aug 2011 12:08:51 In Reply to: Re: I think I found a loose hose?, John Myers, Fri, 5 Aug 2011 13:15:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
However, this post may help someone someday. Basically, the strange symptom of the car starting up and idling OK, but only for the first few moments is apparently indicative of a problem with the main air INTAKE.
Somehow my intake connection, the large rubber hose coming up from the bottom front of the car, had come loose from the rigid piping going to the throttle body. Wouldn't have thought to look for it because I wasn't ever really working on that side of the car. Again, I think the engine rebuilders left it so loose and the car so dirty that I bumped it when I was starting to take the downpipe loose.
So there it was point up and whistling good amounts of air like a small compressor. At first, I thought I had a leak. Then when I saw the tube and looked around I figured it out.
On a side note, that tube inside looked as if it had been out. Oily dirty deposits all along the inside. Awhile back, I had put in one of those K&N rechargeable oiled air filters. I notice this thing leaks a lot, and the girlfriend supposedly recharges it a few months ago. It drips the oil downward (gravity) but I wonder if these are bad for the SAAB? I didn't notice much deposits or anything on the upper clean side of the airbox, so I'm not sure?
