grinding in 1st gear

I recently had the slave cylinder changed on my 98 900SE 5spd. Now i get grinding going into 1st gear. I have to be at a complete stop to engage it otherwise it grinds when down shifting or starting with the RPMs above idle. Driving and shifting into the other gears is fine. I took it back to my mechanic, and after bleeding the line and still no change he says that my clutch is worn down and that is causing the grinding. But it wasn't grinding be for the slave cylinder was changed! and the clutch is only about 4yrs old. I will say that this is a high mileage Talladega (198,000) but living in NYC it only gets driven on the weekend so i avg less than 10,000 miles a year and most of my driving is on the highway going out to N.J. so my question is do I need a clutch replacement or could it be something else?
