As a general note, you usually get roughly what you pay for with tires, rebates and actual sales notwithstanding. You will find that a "V" or "W" rated tire will perform better than an "H" rated tire and that a more expensive tire will perform better all around - that includes general "performance" as a "granny" driver: Ride, quietness, comfort, noise, cornering, wear, etc. Even if you're not zipping around corners there are a lot of aspects of tires that matter on at DD.
Check out the "Reviews" for any particular tire at Tirerack. It's their best feature. Don't put a lot of stock in any reviews from people who just installed their tires or only have a few thousand miles. Look at the summary numbers too - for any tire with a few million miles they are excellent tools.
If you plan to keep a car for a while, I'd invest in higher quality tires. You won't regret it.
