I don't have experience with our 900's/9-3's, but had a 2000 Ford Taurus that had the same thing happen after a quick-lube place tried to change out my cabin filter... they didn't get the seals right under the windshield wiper when replacing the front cowl, allowing rain to drip down through the venting and out the foot heater vent on the passenger size (which allowed it to go right through firewall).
This happened in November for me, it rained and then froze, so when wife got in the passenger seat, she had 2" of ICE in the passenger footwell. Water stayed in front due to seat support bracket causing a 'lip' that water didn't go over.
Obviously check that it's water (then it's likely rain or external water) and not something else leaking, but I'd look for bad seal for A/C and venting from windshield on down through firewall area.
