Convert windshield replacement Posted by DivrDon [Email] (#1004) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DivrDon) on Thu, 2 Feb 2012 12:34:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So a small stone chip in my '02 Viggen convertible has expanded across the entire windshield. The windshield had already been replaced at some point before I got the car with a Pilkington rather than SAAB part. I had several quotes, all replacement glass for around $225. The glass guy comes out looks at the trim and tells me I need to replace the aluminum trim because when he removes the old windshield the trim is going to get bent and will look bad if reinstalled. The existing trim piece is one piece from bottom corner up and around the top to the other bottom corner. The local SAAB dealer is telling the glass guy that is is now three pieces and he only has the two side pieces in stock and will have to locate the top piece. Cost is going to be over $300 for just the trim. Anyone have any experience with this? Did they change the trim for the convertible? Is there any way to take the existing trim out without destroying it?
