Found a post by Anders recommending a 20mm long M6. Got one, and it fit just fine.
I went with a socket head cap screw, since the local hardware store didn't have torx head.
A few things I learned when replacing the CPS (this is for a 2001 Viggen Conv):
1) Unless you're going to get the car up on a lift, it's easier to remove coming from the top. Lying on my back, I couldn't get the proper torque to unscrew the fastener. It also didn't help that I've got a bad shoulder that's still healing. With a 20" socket extender and swivel joint, it only took a few minutes to remove the CPS, which included removing the large heat shield (1 hex bolt).
2) Putting the small CPS heat shield and screw back on actually would have been easier from the bottom. I managed it from the top, but I can see how someone with large hands would have a problem. 2 dropped screws and 10 minutes later, I finally got the thing to stay on so that I could torque it down with the socket.
3) For removing the CPS screw, PB Blaster is your friend!
4) The metal clip holding the wire is easy to remove by coming from the engine firewall side with a screwdriver.
5) Removing the connector is easier if you first remove the connector that's next to it (outboard).
It took me 3 hours, which included over 1 hour fishing around for dropped screws/tools and an hour wasted trying to remove the CPS from under the car. Now that I know exactly what to do, if I had to do it again, it would probably be a 30min job at most.
