Car: 1996 900SE Turbo 5-Speed
Symptoms:
On the commute to school half of it is a huge down hill (~ 5 miles) that I would just coast down in neutral. Yesterday morning did that, car just died so I put it in gear depressed the clutch engine started and when I would give it gas nothing would happen. Press clutch, engine died. Tried doing this a few times with same result till I ran out of potential energy. The car wants to start over but wont.
Car has had some fuel issues lately as in I can smell fuel in the engine bay and inside the car aswell. This is usually a lot more pronounced when I fill the tank. I replaced the fuel filter and that seemed to take care of the issue, the old filter had a very rusty exterior. Also, my gas mileage has dropped to about 20 mpg since last september, this is mpg for city and highway its just a constant 20 mpg - very crappy.
Tried:
I checked the fuel pump, I can hear it kick on and I replaced it 40k miles ago. Spark plugs are 2 months old, I checked them anyways, clean. Unplugged battery pressed brake lights, reconnected, nothing. Swapped out with the spare DI, nothing. Looked for codes, none. I also looked at the fuel pressure regulator, it looks clean - no dirt or anything signalling a leak that would attract engine crud. I checked the fuses on the driver side and also in the engine bay right in front of the steering wheel - all good.
Possibilities:
CPS?
Ignition switch?
Someone said I should be able to see sparks from the DI if take it out and try to start it with a plug inside. Should I do try this?
I am crap out of ideas.
Anyways, thanks for your help in advance
