pulley & belt replacement followup question

Thanks to crawdad & John G. for their replies to my earlier thread.
I have determined that my car (1999 9-3) has the short belt - it goes flat across the top. So I will just be replacing the idler pulley (for VIN XX2028401 & higher) and probably the belt as well.
My question is, what do I use to loosen the belt tensioner? WIS says a "ratchet handle extension" - what size?
many thanks!
