car: '01 9-3 2.0 turbo motor
first off would love to thank the saab engineers.
changing water pump/upper and lower hoses today.
the 12mm banjo fitting is the most fun ever.
A/C compressor is perilously close to the water pump and makes removal a quite a job. during existing water pump removal, found the two top bolts on the A/C compressor, to be finger tight. the third bottom bolt was snug (as should be).
the existing water pump shaft bearing has started began growling to the point of rubbing against the engine. upon removal, the water pump appears like brand new on the inside and outside. no corrosion or deposits of any kind on cast impeller.
the existing bad pump is stamped with a # 158-2010 M8
note that: unknown to me date when pump was changed previously in this car.
theory is that loose A/C compressor mounting bolts caused vibration/misalignment/and varying side loads on belt causing bearing failure in water pump shaft. the closest pulley to the water pump is the A/C compressor pulley.
the top compressor bolts will be cleaned and coated with blue thread locker goo to prevent further issues.
hope it helps someone.
