2001 Saab 9/3 Cold Start Riddle

This particular vehicle has been one CEL after another since it was new with 500 miles on it. The latest issue is a cold start issue. The vehicle does not start if you let it sit for several hours. Squirt a short blast of ether in the TB and she'll start right up. So it's a fuel issue, right? So I decide to try something else as everything in the fuel system checks out. I roll start it in the driveway. One gentle pop at about 5 mph and she starts right up with no additional fuel. My guess is that it's the cassette and the extra draw from the starter is just enough to drop the voltage below what the cassette requires. Not only that but the code shows an ignition misfire. However, not that conclusive as the vehicle shut off when it was new (500 miles) at 70 mph on Route 95. The dealer reset it and said that was not unusual as a plug had misfired???? Two cassettes later, two mass air meters later, one throttle body, one ECU upgrade, etc., etc. and the problems continue many, many miles later. Oh well, I'll roll the dice on the cassette and see what happens. A Scion tC with the hatchback is starting to look appealing. The Saab 9/3 has been a love/hate relationship from day one. Fast as hell, but way too sensitive and the front suspension creaks like an old bed despite replacing every conceivable part. I'd take any of my 7 super reliable pre'91 Saab 900's to this gem. And who invented the full floating front driver for the driver's side axle? My lawn tractor has a better designed axle...
