So I was fortunate enough to have the rare problem of a failed brake booster. There's pretty much no info on the procedure on the net due to the rarity of the failure. Here's how I went about it:
- Remove strut cross brace
- Remove vacuum hoses from module above the booster for easier access
- Remove vacuum line that plugs into the booster
- Remove both bolts holding master cylinder to the booster (13mm)
- Remove the four bolts holding the booster onto the bracket which is bolted to the firewall
(I cut the boot the protects the linkage coming through the firewall to improve access to the bottom right bolt, it's a bear to get to this bolt btw. 13mm)
- Remove plastic sheeting from under the drivers footwell and remove pin from brake pedal armature to free up the link to the booster that goes through the firewall.
- Pull the master cylinder a part from the booster (carefully, you don't want to bend any lines)
- Wiggle the booster out of the bracket
-Reverse for install
There may be some better methods or procedures to follow, but this worked for me. Make sure you hook the linkage back onto the brake pedal armature before you bolt the booster back onto
the bracket.
This whole thing was a bit more of a pain in the ass than I expected. Take your time and get ready to get yourself upside down in the footwell.
