if it's even measurable. Alternator is running all the time anyway. Even if I saved 2 mpg I wouldn't give up my DRL. Definitely helps to see certain vehicles under certain conditions and likely helps under any conditions. Especially good for those who might forget to light up in the rain or low-light conditions like dawn and dusk. No hard evidence just personal experience but I'm sure studies were done before DRL became widespread.
