New Fuel Pump but Still Won't Start

Recently my 2000 Saab 9 3 Turbo Convertible's had a re-starting problem after a short drive - cranked but wouldn't start. The first time it occurred I noticed my remote car lock/unlock wouldn't work just before I had the starting problem. Both the first and second time it happened the car started on its own after several tries and about 15 minutes and ran fine for several days but the third time it happened I never got it started back. I called my mechanic who came and checked the car and found the fuel pump wasn't running and towed it to the shop. After purchasing and installing a new fuel pump and assembly it still only cranks but won't start. You can hear the new pump running however after he checked the fuel filter he discovered no gas was getting to it. He thinks the new fuel pump may be bad but was unable to address the problem further as he had to leave on vacation. It has never hesitated to crank nor have I experienced any long cranking sequences. The last time I drove it successfully I did notice that it began to "chug" after having been driven for 45 minutes straight while at the same time my CD player began acting strange at which time I ejected the CD and found it to be HOT! Anybody got any ideas about what’s wrong? I’ve got a week to come up with some solutions while my mechanic is on vacation. Thanks.
