Don't give up until you know the facts on what needs to be repaired and the cost. I have a 2000 9-3 that is getting very close to 200,000 miles and I still love driving it!
The engine will easily last to 200,000 miles and I am still on my original clutch, if you can believe that!
It is true that between 100,000 and 200,000 miles various things will wear out and need to be replaced, but I find that even putting 1500 a year into it in repairs on average (some years much less, some years more), is less than 5 months payment on a new car...one I would likely enjoy less than my 9-3. If you truly want a new car, that's fine, but if you love your 9-3 and there is not some truly major problem, you can keep it running for years to come. As others suggested, if you can find a trustworthy Saab independent mechanic in your area then you should be in good shape to get honest evaluations on any upcoming repairs to make the call on when to repair and when to eventually retire your 9-3.
